Issue 5 - September 2006 Page 31 of 655 Operations5.1 IntroductionThe Operations Section of this manual covers only the aspects related to safety of operating aTriguard SC300E Safety Programmable Logic Controller configured for an EmergencyShutdown Application.The Operations and Maintenance Manual provided by the System Integrators will cover allapplication aspects with respect to the operation of the system and all standard maintenanceprocedures. All operators must be fully conversant with this manual. The supplied Operationsand Maintenance Manual will include the standard Operations and Maintenance Manual 008-5202.5.2 TrainingAll operators of Triguard SC300E Safety Systems must have completed the Triguard SC300EOperators Training Course. It is recommended that operators be re-trained on a SC300Erefresher course every 24 months.5.3 System Start-upOperators must ensure that there is no dangerous material within the plant or process prior tothe start-up of the Triguard SC300E Safety SystemAn auditable permit to works system must be in operation before any system/process start-upoperation occurs.Trained maintenance staff will only complete the system power-up. The Operational Start-upprocedures documented in the Operations and Maintenance Manual must be followed in theorder presented.5.3.1 Process Loading and Start-upBefore the process is re-loaded into the plant and the process plant started, the Safety Systemmust be confirmed to be in full operation and 100% healthy. If during the system start-upprocedure errors still remain in the system, maintenance must ensure that these errors arecorrected before process load and start sequence commences.5.4 System OperationThe detailed operation aspects of the supplied Safety Systems will be covered in the bespokeOperations and Maintenance Manual supplied by the System Integrator.The following procedures, however, must be followed to ensure the continued and safeoperation of the system and plant.5.4.1 Maintenance AlarmAll maintenance alarms must be immediately brought to the attention of maintenance byoperations to enable repairs to be carried out within the specified Mean Time to Repair.
