Functional Description 29BatteryThe cPCI-3920 is provided with a 3.0 V “coin cell” lithium batteryfor the RTC. To replace the battery, proceed as follows:X Turn off powerX Remove the batteryX Place the new battery in the socket.X Make sure that you insert the battery the right way round. The plus pole must be on the top!The lithium battery must be replaced with an identical batteryor a battery type recommended by the manufacturer. Suitablebatteries include the VARTA CR2025 and PANASONIC BR2020.Note: The user must be aware that the battery’s operational tem-perature range is less than that of the cPCI-3920’s storagetemperature range. For exact range information, refer to thebattery manufacturer’s specifications.Note: Care must be taken to ensure that the battery is correctly re-placed.The battery should be replaced only with an iden-tical or equivalent type recommended by themanufacturer.Dispose of used batteries according to themanufacturer’s instructions. The typical life expectancy of a225 mAh battery (VARTA CR2032) is 4-5 years with an av-erage on-time of 8 hours per working day at an operatingtemperature of 30°C. However, this typical value varies con-siderably because the life expectancy is dependent on theoperating temperature and the standby time (shutdown time)of the system in which it operates. To ensure that the lifetimeof the battery has not been exceeded, it is recommended toexchange the battery after 3-4 years.ResetThe cPCI-3920 is automatically reset by a precision voltage moni-toring circuit that detects a drop in voltage below the acceptableoperating limit of 4.45V for the 5V line and below 2.8V for the 3.3Vline. Other reset sources include the Watchdog Timer and thelocal push-button switch (only on 8HP). The cPCI-3920 respondsto any of these sources by initializing local peripherals.
