11. Let the generator run at full rated load for 20-30 minutes.Listen for unusual noises, vibration or other indicationsof abnormal operation. Check for oil leaks, evidence ofoverheating, etc.12. When testing under load is complete, turn off electricalloads.13. Set the generator main circuit breaker to its OFF (oropen) position.14. Let the engine run at no-load for a few minutes.15. Set the AUTO-OFF-MANUAL switch to OFF. The engineshould shut down.checkinG automatic operationTo check the system for proper automatic operation, proceed as follows:1. Set generator main circuit breaker to its OFF (or open)position.2. Check that the AUTO-OFF-MANUAL switch is set to OFF.3. Turn off the utility power supply to the transfer switch, using means provided (such as a utility main line circuitbreaker).4. Manually set the transfer switch to the UTILITY position, i.e.,load terminals connected to the utility power source side.5. Turn on the utility power supply to the transfer switch, using the means provided (such as a utility main linecircuit breaker).6. Set the AUTO-OFF-MANUAL switch to AUTO. Thesystem is now ready for automatic operation.7. Turn off the utility power supply to the transfer switch. With the AUTO-OFF-MANUAL switch at AUTO, theengine should crank and start when the utility sourcepower is turned off. After starting, the transfer switchshould connect load circuits to the standby side. Letthe system go through its entire automatic sequenceof operation. With the generator running and loads powered bygenerator AC output, turn ON the utility power supplyto the transfer switch. The following should occur:• After about fifteen seconds, the switch shouldtransfer loads back to the utility power source.• About one minute after retransfer, the engine shouldshut down.SettinG the eXerciSe timerThis generator is equipped with an exercise timer.Once it is set, the generator will start and exerciseevery seven days, on the day of the week and at thetime of day specified. During this exercise period, the unit runs for approximately 12 minutes and thenshuts down. Transfer of loads to the generator outputdoes not occur during the exercise cycle unless utilitypower is lost.PROCEDURE 8 kW UNITS:A switch on the control panel (see Figure 3.1) permitsselection of the day and time for the system to exercise. At the chosen time, perform the following sequence toselect the desired day and time of day the system willexercise. Remember, seasonal time changes affect theexercise settings.1. Verify that the AUTO-OFF-MANUAL switch is set toAUTO.2. Press and hold the “Set Exercise” switch for severalseconds. All the red LED’s will stop flashing immediatelyand the generator will start.3. The generator will start and run for approximately 12minutes and then shut down. The exerciser is now set torun at this time of day each week. Example: If the “SetExercise” is pressed on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.the generator will start and exercise for approximately12 minutes every Saturday at 2:00 p.m.10-20 kW - INSTALLATION ASSISTANT:Upon first power up of the generator, the display inter-face will enter an installation assistant. The assistantwill prompt the user to set the minimum settings tooperate. These settings are simply: “Current Date/Time”and “Exercise Day/Time”. The maintenance intervalswill be initialized when the exercise time is entered. The exercise settings can be changed at any timevia the “EDIT” menu (see Appendix, “Menu System”).If the 12 volt battery is disconnected or the fuseremoved, the Installation Assistant will operate uponpower restoration. The only difference being that thedisplay will only prompt the customer for the currentTime and Date.ALL UNITS:note: if the installer tests the generator prior toinstallation, press the “enter” key to avoid set-ting the exercise time. this will ensure that thecustomer will still be prompted to enter an exercisetime when the unit is first powered up.note: the exerciser will only work in the automode and will not work unless this procedureis performed. the current date/time will need tobe reset every time the 12 volt battery is discon-nected and then reconnected, and/or when thefuse is removed.Part 5Page 150OPERATIONAL TESTSAND ADJUSTMENTSsEctioN 5.1sYstEm fuNctioNal tEsts0G9266revA.indd 150 10/15/2008 11:28:23 AM
