Alarm Configuration4-10Advanced Alarm ConfigurationIndex This index number uniquely identifies each occurrence ofa rising or falling event. Note that, since the alarm whoselog is displayed in Figure 4-2 experienced both rising andfalling alarms, there are two sets of event indices: onewhich identifies each instance of the rising alarm, andone which identifies each instance of the falling alarm.Time Indicates the date and time of each event occurrence.Description Provides a detailed description of the condition whichtriggered the alarm, including whether it was a Rising orFalling alarm, the Value which triggered the alarm, andthe configured Threshold that was crossed.Each log will hold only a finite number of entries, which is determined by theresources available on the device; when the log is full, the oldest entries will bereplaced by new ones.Advanced Alarm ConfigurationThe Basic Alarm Configuration window provides a quick and easy way to set upsome basic alarms for all of the interfaces installed in your SmartSwitch 7000chassis. However, if you prefer more control over the parameters of the alarmsyou set (as well as their associated events and actions) and/or a wider array ofchoices for each variable, the Advanced Alarm feature provides a powerful andflexible means for configuring alarms, events, and actions to suit your particularnetworking needs.Accessing the RMON Advanced Alarm/Event ListTo access the RMON Advanced Alarm/Event List window:1. From the Chassis View, click on the appropriate port interface to display thePort menu; drag down to Alarm Configuration, and release.2.
