Port Assignment and Virtual LANs8-11Expansion - EthernetPort Assignment and Virtual LANsAn Ethernet Port Assignment network is a segmented Ethernet which supportsthe connection of individual ports to specific Ethernet network segments throughsoftware controls.Adding Users to Any SegmentAdding users to a Port Assignment network is an extremely simple matter. Aslong as there are Media Interface Module slots available in the MMAC chassis, more stations can be added to the three Multichannel Ethernet networks bysimply adding more TPXMIM modules to the chassis. So, to add 11 more Ethernetstations to the channel A network, three stations to the channel B network, and 26stations to the channel C network, we need only total the stations to be added andplace a number of TPXMIM modules in the chassis which meet or exceed thatport count. In this case, since we are adding a total of 40 stations to the network, the addition of two TPXMIM-22 modules to the chassis would accommodate thenew needs of the network.Incorporating Token RingAdding new technologies to a Port Assignment network is accomplished in thesame manner as adding new technologies to a Multichannel Ethernet network(described above).Incorporating FDDIAdding new technologies to a Port Assignment network is accomplished in thesame manner as adding new technologies to a Multichannel Ethernet network(described above).
