70 Configuring & Monitoring the Switch ELS100-S24TX2MSetting SNMP Management AccessAccess to the ELS100-S24TX2M switch through SNMP is controlled bycommunity names. The community names set for the switch must matchthose used by the SNMP management station for successfulcommunication to occur. Access for community names can be set toREAD/WRITE or READ ONLY access. The default “Public” communityname allows READ ONLY access to the device via SNMP, whereas thedefault “Private” community name allows READ/WRITE access.The ELS100-S24TX2M switch can send SNMP messages called traps toSNMP management stations when an important event occurs with theswitch. The switch allows up to five destinations to be configured for thesetrap messages to be sent.To configure SNMP access for the switch, do the following:1. Select Management Setup Menu from the Main Menu.2. Select SNMP Configuration Menu.3. Select SNMP Communities from the menu. Enter the desiredcommunity names (you are permitted to enter from one to 20characters) and set access to READ/WRITE or READ ONLY.4. Select IP Trap Managers from the SNMP Configuration Menu.5. Enter appropriate IP addresses for the Trap destinations.6. For each Trap destination entered, a corresponding accesscommunity name should be entered.Viewing Switch StatisticsTo view switch statistics, do the following:1. Select Network Monitor Menu from the Main Menu.2. Select Port Statistics. Then select the stack unit, and port to displaythe main statistical counts for the port.3. Select RMON Statistics. Then select the stack unit, and port todisplay detailed statistical counts for the port.4. On any of the statistics screens, select Reset Counters to clear (zero)the displayed statistical counts and Refresh Counters to refresh(update) the displayed statistical counts.
