Starting and Operating Instructions. . . 282Parking on HillsCAUTIONWhen towing a trailer, avoidparking your vehicle on a hill. Ifsomething were to go wrong,your rig could start to move.People could be injured andboth your vehicle and the trailercould be damaged.You should not park vehicles withtrailers on a grade (hill). However,if you must park on a grade, followthese steps:1. Apply your regular brakes, butdon't shift into P (Park) yet.If the vehicle is facing down-hill, turn the wheels towardthe curb. If it is facing uphill,turn the wheels toward traffic.2. Have someone place chocksunder the trailer wheels.3. When the wheel chocks are inplace, release the regularbrakes until the chocks absorbthe load.4. Reapply the regular brakes.Then apply your parkingbrake, and then shift toP (Park).5. Release the regular brakes.CAUTIONBe sure the shift lever is inP (Park) and the parking brakeis firmly applied when you leaveyour vehicle.When you are ready to leave afterparking on a hill, be sure to holdthe regular brake pedal downwhile you start the engine, shiftinto gear and release the parkingbrake.Drive slowly until the trailer is clearof the chocks.Stop and have someone pick upand store the chocks.AKENG44_Escalade Page 282 Wednesday, July 16, 2008 12:22 PM
