Check the level of thelubricant by removing theplug.- When the differential is cold,add lubricant, if needed, tobring the level up to 3.2 mm(1/8 inch) below the fillerplug hole.- When the differential iswarm, add lubricant, ifneeded, to bring the level upto the bottom of the fillerplug hole.Rear Axle LubricantIt is not necessary to regularlycheck the fluid unless you suspectthere is a leak in the system or youhear an unusual noise.Fluid loss in this system couldindicate a problem. Have thesystem inspected.Axle assemblies are filled byvolume of fluid rather than filled toreach a certain level. Readings willvary depending on how long thevehicle has been stationary.Remember that the rear axleassembly must be supported toget a true reading.See the "Recommended Fluids andLubricants" chart later in thissection to determine what kind offluid to use.To check the fluid level:1. Park the vehicle on a levelsurface and apply the parkingbrake.2. Turn off the engine.3.
