2.4 Pause Between ScanningThis printer features pause between-scanning to prevent bleeding and white cloudingbe caused by differences in characteristics between color ink and black ink. Thisfunction allows the border between the color ink and black ink to be detected duringinternal print data processing so that, when detected, an appropriate pause will beimposed on each print mode and color to prevent bleeding. Since this functiondecreases the printer's throughput, it will only be activated when enabled by the userand when printing on plain paper, for which this type of bleeding occurs easily.2.5 Pause Between PagesImmediately after ejection, printed paper is left to dry on the paper eject tray naturally. If the next paper is ejected before the previous page has dried completely, ink-smearingmay occur. To prevent this, 1-minute pause will be imposed on for all pages beforeprinting starts, to delay paper ejection so the preceding page can dry. This isparticularly useful for slow-drying print media such as transparencies.2.6 Smear ControlImmediately after being ejection, printed paper is left to dry on the paper eject traynaturally. The next paper is ejected before the previous page has dried completely, ink-smearing may occur. To prevent this, wait-time is added into the printing process, delaying paper ejection so the preceding page can dry. After printing at high speed withthe Black BJ cartridge at high duty on plain paper or postcards, this printerautomatically determines both the high duty printing position and time elapsed afterprinting, to control smearing ( default setting is ENABLE.).2.7 Auto Power ON/OFFThis printer can switch itself on in response to print signals from the host computerand switch itself off if left for a certain period of time without incoming print signals. These settings can be made with the printer driver. When Auto Power ON is enabled, the printer powers on if more than 3 bytes of data are received consecutively. Thus, theinterface unit is enabled, even if the printer is switched off. When Auto Power OFF isenabled, the printer powers off if a certain period of time has elapsed without receivingprint data from the host computer. If, however, an error exists, paper is in the manualfeed slot, or the front cover is open, the printer will not power off.2.8 Head Overheat ProtectionIf the printer continues to print after ink has run-out, the bubble jet head will overheat. To prevent this, when the head temperature sensor inside the bubble jet head detects atemperature higher than the specified range, overheat protection is performed.Protection level 1: Prevents the user from touching the hot aluminum plate of thehead when replacing the bubble jet head by preventing the carriage from moving to thecartridge replacement position for fixed time, even if the front cover is open.Protection level 2: If a further rise in temperature is detected, after printing 1 line oftext, the carriage returns to the home position for 3.5 seconds to allow cooling beforecontinuing printing. This protection continues for more than 20 seconds.Protection level 3: If an even higher rise in temperature is detected, the printer seesthis as head temperature error and stops printing. If the problem persists, the printersees it as a head temperature sensor failure and displays the head temperature errormessage. The ENABLE TIME can be 5 min., 10 min., 15 min., 30 min., or 60 min.Part 4: Technical Reference BJC-60004-16
