119Shooting – Selecting Particular EffectsSetting the Auto Rotate FunctionThis camera is equipped with an Intelligent Orientation sensor thatdetects the orientation of an image shot with the camera on end andautomatically rotates it to the correct viewing orientation in thedisplay. You can set this function on/off.Mode Dial1 Select [Auto Rotate] in the [(Set up)] menu.z See Selecting Menus and Settings(p. 44).2 Select [On] and press the MENUbutton.z When this function is On, an iconshowing the orientation of the cameraappears at the upper right corner of theLCD monitor (or viewfinder).z This function may not operate correctly when the camera ispointed straight up or down. Check that the correct cameraorientation icon (e.g. ) is displayed and if it is not, then set theAuto Rotate function to Off.z Even if the Auto Rotate function is set to On, the orientation ofimages downloaded to a computer will depend upon softwareused to download the images.z When the camera is held on end to shoot, the IntelligentOrientation sensor judges the upper end to be “up” and the lowerend to be “down”. It then regulates the optimal white balance andexposure for vertical photography. This function operatesregardless of the On/Off status of the Auto Rotate function.z When changing the camera’s orientation between the horizontaland vertical positions, you may hear noise coming from theorientation detection mechanism.
