33Preparing the Camera, Basic FunctionsThe LCD monitor can also be positioned as below.Using the ViewfinderIf the surroundings are too bright (for example, when you areshooting outdoors) and images on the LCD monitor are not clear,use the viewfinder for shooting. (The same image and information asthe LCD monitor appear in the viewfinder.)z You can adjust the viewfinder with the diopter adjustment dial toadapt to your vision so that the displayed information (p. 36)appears in crisp focus.1 Open the LCD monitor left 180degrees and tilt it 180 degreestoward the lens.z In this position, icons and messages donot appear on the LCD monitor.z The image shown on the LCD monitor isautomatically flipped and reversed (theReverse Display function) so that itappears correctly from in front of the lens.(You can disable the Reverse Displayfunction (p. 48).)2 Fold the LCD monitor backagainst the camera body.z Fold it until it clicks into place against thecamera body. If it is not fully closed, theimage will appear reversed and icons andmessages will not display.z Icons and messages will appear andimages will show properly (not reversed)when the LCD monitor is folded rightagainst the camera until it clicks.z In Playback mode, images do not appear reversed.
