33Selecting the Recording MediaYou can select to record your moviesand photos on the built-in hard disk oron a memory card. The hard disk is thedefault media for recording both.[ Menu] or[Rec Media for Movies] or[Rec Media for Photos] Selectthe hard disk or memory card** For each media, you can check the total,used and available space. Available spaceis estimated based on the recording mode(movies) or photo size/quality (photos)currently in use.Initializing the Hard Disk or MemoryCardInitialize memory cards when you usethem with this camcorder for the firsttime. You can also initialize a memorycard or the hard disk to permanentlydelete all the recordings it contains.Initializing the recording media alsoeliminates fragmentation.Fragmentation becomes more seriousas recordings are repeatedly added anddeleted and can eventually result inreduced performance.Options[ Menu][Initialize / ][HDD] or [Mem. Card]Initialization method[Yes]* [OK]* Press to cancel the completeinitialization while it is in progress. Allrecordings will be erased and the recordingmedia can be used without any problem.IMPORTANT• Initializing the recording media willpermanently erase all recordings. While the initialization is inprogress, do not disconnect the powersource.TO CHANGE THE MEDIA FOR RECORDINGMOVIESFUNC.FUNC.[Quick Initialization]Clears the file allocation table but does notphysically erase the stored data.[Complete Initialization]Erases all data completely.
