49E Using the FullRange of FeaturesAdjusting Focus ManuallyThe camera can focus automatically. All you have to do is point it, and whatever isin the center of the display will usually be in sharp focus. If it does not seem to befocusing well, it may be because the subject is not suitable for autofocus (p. 69).It also has functions which give you more control over focusing.Manual focusUse the multi-switch lever to set thefocus.• Turn it towards the lens to move thefocus further away.• Turn it away from the lens to bringthe focus nearer.Press the FOCUS side of the multi-switch to turn off autofocus. The focusremains locked at the point set byautofocus.(AF | appears in the display.) Youcan now adjust the focus manually.Press the FOCUS side of the multi-switch again when you want to returnto autofocus.Focus lockFOCUSEXPFOCUSEXPNotes:• In the [ (Easy Recording) program you can adjust the focus temporarily, butyou cannot turn off autofocus.• The manual focus setting is canceled if you change the position of the POWERswitch.You can also adjust the focus temporarily without turning autofocus off — in thiscase turn the multi-switch lever to set the focus (without pressing the multi-switchdown to turn the autofocus off/lock the exposure) and autofocus will start again assoon as you release the lever.• If you zoom in on your subject after turning off autofocus, it may not stay infocus. It is generally best to adjust the zoom first, and then the focus.
