Chapter 4 — PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION4-1Alaris ® Syringe Module (8110 Series)Alaris ® PCA Module (8120 Series)Technical Service Manual4.1 INTRODUCTIONThis chapter describes the principles ofoperation for the Syringe and PCA Modules.Refer to the PC Unit/Pump Module(8000 /8100 Series) Technical Service Manualfor PC Unit information.4.2 GENERAL INFORMATIONThe Syringe and PCA Modules function aspart of the Alaris® System, and function onlywhen attached to a PC Unit.• PCA Module: the PCA Module includesa locking security door and patienthandset. Only one PCA Module can beattached to the PC Unit, and the PCAModule must be attached directly to theright of the PC Unit.• Syringe Module: the Syringe Moduleincludes a pressure sensing subsystemfor use with administration sets thatinclude pressure discs. Up to fourSyringe Modules can be attached to thePC unit.• Both modules can be used in conjunctionwith any combination of other Alaris ®Modules. Both modules are appropriate forintermittent or continuous delivery of IVfluids. Both modules can provide smoothdelivery of small quantities of IV fluid within avery low contained volume. Both modulesinclude these advanced features: bolusdelivery, drug library, drug dose calculator, loading dose, titrate without stopping, syringe size detector, one-handed syringeloading, several modes of delivery, multi-channel coordinated infusion, and doselimits.
