M850/M860 USER MANUALCHARGINGCharging the LanternIf the lantern batteries have a charge of less than80%, they require charging.It is recommended that you place the 800 Serieslantern in Off mode for charging. When it is in Offmode, the lantern can continue to charge using lighton the solar panels, but does not turn on indarkness.To place the lantern into Off mode, follow thecommand sequence described on page 11, “Turningthe Lantern On or Off”.SunlightIf available, sunlight is the easiest way to chargemultiple lanterns. The 800 Series lantern willtypically require five to 10 days to fully charge fromsunlight. Additional charging time may be required inextremely low light conditions.External Power SourceThe 800 Series lantern may also be equipped with aquick-access external charge port located in thebase of the lantern. Alternately, the lantern housingmay be removed to access an internal port. Usingeither of these options, the light may achieve a fullstate-of-charge overnight by connecting the chargeport to an external power source. The wall charger isintended for indoor use only. Carmanah will supply awall charger with adapter on request.Charge IndicatorWhen the battery is charging either from sunlight orfrom the external charger, a single point on the lowerright of the lantern’s LED display will flash.If the lantern has been storedimproperly, the batteries may besulphated and will not accept a charge.A new battery may be required.Charging via an External PowerSource (Quick Access ChargePort)Step 1: Tilt the lantern and open the water-tightcharge-port cap.Step 2: Connect the Carmanah-supplied chargeraccessory to the charge port.Step 3: Align the charger cord with the cord channelat the base of the lantern.Step 4: Plug in the charger and let charge overnight.Wait a minimum of one hour and verify battery state-of-charge.
