SYSTEM DESCRIPTIONOutdoor rooftop-mounted electrically controlled air-to-airheat pump utilizing a scroll compressor for cooling duty andelectric resistance coils for heating duty. Unit shall dischargesupply air vertically or horizontally as shown on contractdrawings.B. QUALITY ASSURANCE1. Unit shall be rated in accordance with ARI Standards210/240 or 360 and 270. Designed in accordance with ULStandard 1995. Units shall be Energy Star qualified.2. Unit shall be designed to conform to ASHRAE 15, latestrevision.3. Unit shall be UL-tested and certified in accordance withANSI Z21.47 Standards and UL-listed and certified underCanadian standards as a total package for safetyrequirements.4. Roof curb shall be designed to conform to NRCAStandards.5. Insulation and adhesive shall meet NFPA 90Arequirements for flame spread and smoke generation.6. Unit casing shall be capable of withstanding500-hour salt spray exposure per ASTM B117 (scribedspecimen).7. Unit shall be designed in accordance with ISO 9001:2000,and shall be manufactured in a facility registered to ISO9001:2000.8. Each unit shall be subjected to a completely automated runtesting on the assembly line. A factory-supplied printoutindicating tested pressures, amperages, data, andinspectors; shall be available upon request at the time ofmanufacture.C. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLINGUnit shall be stored and handled per manufacturer’srecommendations.PRODUCTSA. EQUIPMENT (STANDARD)1. General:Factory assembled, single-piece heat pump unit.Contained within the unit enclosure shall be all factorywiring, piping, controls, refrigerant charge (R-22), andspecial features required prior to field start-up.2. Unit Cabinet:a. Unit cabinet shall be constructed of galvanized steel, andshall be bonderized and coated with a prepainted bakedenamel finish on all externally exposed surfaces.b. Evaporator fan compartment interior cabinet surfacesshall be insulated with a minimum 1/2-in. thick, 1 lbdensity, flexible fiberglass insulation, neoprene coated onthe air side. Aluminum foil-faced fiberglass insulationshall be used in the gas heat compartment.c. Cabinet panels shall be easily removable for servicing.d. Holes shall be provided in the base rails for riggingshackles to facilitate maneuvering and overhead rigging.e. Unit shall have a factory-installed, sloped condensatedrain pan made of a non-corrosive material, providing aminimum 3/4-in-14 NPT connection with both verticaland horizontal drains, and shall comply with ASHRAEStandard 62.f. Unit shall have a factory-installed filter access panel toprovide filter access with tool-less removal.g. Unit shall have standard thru-the-bottom powerconnection capability (accessory kit is required).3. Fans:a. Indoor Fan:(1.) Fan shall be direct or belt driven as shown on theequipment drawings. Belt drive shall include anadjustable-pitch motor pulley.(2.) Fan wheel shall be double-inlet type withforward-curved blades.(3.) Bearings shall be sealed, permanently lubricatedball-bearing type for longer life and lowermaintenance.(4.) Indoor fan shall be made from steel with acorrosion-resistant finish and shall be dynamicallybalanced.b. Outdoor fan shall be of the direct-driven (with totallyenclosed motors) propeller type and shall discharge airvertically.c. Outdoor fan shall have aluminum blades riveted tocorrosion-resistant steel spiders and shall be dynamicallybalanced.4. Compressor(s):a. Fully hermetic type, internally protected scroll-type.b. Factory mounted on rubber grommets and internallyspring mounted for vibration isolation.c. On dual electrically and mechanically independentcircuits (008,012).5. Coils:a. Standard indoor and outdoor coils shall have copper oraluminum plate fins mechanically bonded to seamlessinternally grooved copper tubes with all joints brazed.b. Testing:(1.) Evaporator and condenser coils shall be qualified toUL 1995 burst test at 2,200 psi.(2.) Evaporator and condenser coils shall be leak testedto 150 psig and pressure tested to 400 psig.c. Coils:(1.) Copper-fin coils shall be constructed of copper finsmechanically bonded to copper tubes and coppertube sheets. Galvanized steel tube sheets shall not beacceptable. A polymer strip shall prevent coilassembly from contacting the sheet metal coil pan tominimize potential for galvanic corrosion betweencoil and pan.
