ConnectionsE-16ConnectionsConnecting to an audio or musical instrument amplifier provides even clearer, more powerful sound through external speakers. Whenever connecting external equipment, first set theMAIN VOLUME knob of the digital piano and the volumecontroller of the external equipment to relatively lowvolume settings. You can later adjust volume to the levelyou want after connections are complete. Be sure also to refer to the documentation that comes withthe external equipment for its proper connectionprocedures.Connect commercially available headphones to the digitalpiano’s headphones jack. This cuts off the built-in speakers,which means you can practice even late at night withoutdisturbing others. To protect your hearing, make sure thatyou do not set the volume level too high when usingheadphones.Depending on the type of operation you want the pedal (SP-20) to perform, connect the pedal’s cable to the digital piano’sDAMPER jack or SOFT/SOSTENUTO jack. If you want to useboth jacks at the same time, you need to purchase anotheroptionally available SP-20 pedal.See “Using the Pedals” on page E-21 for information aboutusing a pedal.Use commercially available cables to connect the externalaudio equipment to the digital piano’s LINE OUT jacks asshown in Figure 3. R jack output is right channel sound,while L/MONO jack output is left channel sound. It is up toyou to purchase connecting cables like the ones shown in theillustration for connection of audio equipment. Normally inthis configuration you must set the audio equipment’s inputselector to the setting that specifies the terminal (such as AUXIN) to which the digital piano is connected. Use the digitalpiano’s MAIN VOLUME knob to adjust the volume level.Use commercially available cables to connect the amplifier tothe digital piano’s LINE OUT jacks as shown in Figure 4. Rjack output is right channel sound, while L/MONO jackoutput is left channel sound. Connecting to the L/MONO jackonly outputs a mixture of both channels. It is up to you topurchase connecting cable like the one shown in theillustration for connection of the amplifier. Use the digitalpiano’s MAIN VOLUME knob to adjust the volume level.Use only the accessories and options specified for this digitalpiano.
