Additional FunctionsProduct Reference Guide 3-11Calibrating the ScaleThe second adjustment, calibration, defines and sets a standard referenceweight range against which all product weights are compared. If your scaleis set for weighing in pounds, this range is 0 - 30 pounds, and, if your scaleis set for weighing in kilograms, the range is 0 - 15 kilograms. The scalemust be calibrated upon initial installation, whenever the scale cannot bezeroed, when the scale diagnostics indicate a calibration error, when theweighing measure (pounds or kilograms) is changed, or when the scalemodule has been replaced.Normally, once the scale has been calibrated, the calibration must be veri-fied and/or approved by a local regulatory body. In many areas of theUnited States, the scale calibration switch must be sealed before beingplaced into service. Consult the agency responsible for regulating weigh-ing devices in your area to ensure that you are meeting all legal and regula-tory requirements. Chapter 5, Calibration, describes the calibrationsequence and verification process.Calibration can only be performed if the tamper seal that secures access tothe Calibration Switch is broken and the switch cover is removed. Break-ing the seal may legally render the scale inoperable until it has been recerti-fied and a new seal attached. Consult your local regulations beforeremoving the calibration seal if you are unsure of the legal requirements.Although the scale will physically continue to weigh products, a brokenseal may require recertification by a proper authority as designated by yourlocal laws.
