6-5 Moving Your Computer and PeripheralsYour personal computer and its peripheral components are highlysensitive machines that can be damaged easily through bad shippingand handling. We recommend that you take the following steps beforemoving the equipment to another location.Short MoveAn example of this is moving from one location to another in the samebuilding. Ensure that you have taken the following steps beforemoving any items:• Be sure that all data in your hard disk is backed up onto flop-py disks.• Enter the DOS system program and invoke the PARK com-mand. This command will lock up your hard disk to protect itfrom damage while the computer is being moved.• Turn off all power switches.• Insert the cardboard diskette(s) supplied with the systemunit into the disk drive(s) and close the disk drive levers.• Detach all cables and cords. Next, coil and tie them toprotect the connectors.• Move each item separately.Long MoveThis kind of move involves use of a motor or a vehicle to carry yourcomputer and its peripherals from one location to another.
