Using the appliance for the firsttimeNB!• Coffee has been used to factory test theappliance and it is therefore completely nor-mal for there to be traces of coffee in the mill.The machine is, however, guaranteed to benew.• You should customise water hardness assoon as possible following the instructions inthe section "Setting water hardness" on page49.• Some models are fitted with a water softenerfilter which reduces the build up of limescalein the appliance. To install, see the instruc-tions in the section "Installing the filter" onpage 42.1. Connect the appliance to the mains supply.You must first select the language (the languagesscroll through at intervals of about two seconds):2. When English appears, press the but-ton for three seconds (fig. 1). Once the lan-guage has been saved, the message "EnglishInstalled" is displayed.Follow the instructions indicated by the appliance:3. "FILL TANK!": remove the water tank, fill to theMAX line with fresh water then replace in theappliance (fig. 2).4. "INSERT WATER SPOUT AND PRESS OK":Check that the hot water spout is inserted onthe nozzle and place a container underneath(fig. 3).Press the button (fig. 1). "Please Wait..."is displayed and the appliance begins to runoff hot water.The appliance ends the first start up procedure,then the message "Turning Off, Please Wait..." isdisplayed and the appliance goes off.The coffee maker is now ready for normal use.NB! When using the appliance for the firsttime, you need to make 4/5 cups of coffee and 4/5cappuccinos before the appliance starts to givesatisfactory results.TURNING THE APPLIANCEONEach time the appliance is turned on, it performsan automatic preheat and rinse cycle which can-not be interrupted.The appliance is ready for use only after comple-tion of this cycle.Danger of burns! During rinsing, a littlehot water is run off from the coffee spouts.Avoid contact with splashes of water.• To turn the appliance on, press the button(fig. 4). The message "Heating Up... PleaseWait" is displayed.After heating, the message "RINSING" is displa-yed. As well as heating the boiler, the appliancealso heats the internal circuits by circulating hotwater.The appliance is at temperature when the messa-ge "READY Standard Taste" is displayed.TURNING THE APPLIANCEOFFEach time the appliance is turned off, it performsan automatic rinse cycle which cannot be inter-rupted.Danger of burns! During rinsing, a littlehot water is run off from the coffee spouts. Avoidcontact with splashes of water.To turn the appliance off, press the button (fig.4). The appliance performs the rinse cycle thengoes off.30
