However, make sure the surface isflat to avoid the iron falling over.Using the “domestic” iron• After turning the appliance on as describedabove, wait for the “steam ready” light Y togo off.• To discharge steam, press the steam but-ton U under the handgrip of the iron. Somemodels also have a steam button Z1 on thehandgrip.• Some models have an “auto-off” safety devi-ce which turns the iron off if left unused for30 seconds in the horizontal position or 8minutes in the upright position (fig. 8).When the device is active, light Z flashes.This light is on steadily during normal useand indicates that the iron is plugged intothe mains.To resume ironing, shake the iron slightlyforwards until light Z comes on steadily.Wait for light Y to go off before dischargingsteam.• Some models have a “steam burst” buttonZ1. This function can be used when the ap-pliance is ready to discharge steam.The appliance is set for an interval of 30 se-conds between consecutive bursts of steamto avoid water leaking from the plate.• The iron can be rested in an upright position.Make sure the surface is flat to avoid the ironfalling over accidentally. To rest the iron cor-rectly, fix the steam/cable tube on the rightor left by pushing it as far as it will go until itclicks into place.• Safe transport: the iron has a locking systemto avoid it being accidently dropped duringtransport or when stored after use.To lock the iron in position, insert the tip inthe housing on the iron rest and press theiron downwards until it clicks into place (fig.9).To release the iron, press the buttonZ3 and remove the iron.
