Youshould only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in yourproduct documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service andsupport team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not coveredby your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with theproduct.1 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnectthe system from the electrical outlet. When disconnected from AC power,press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to fully drain the system ofstored power prior to removing the cover.NOTE: It is recommended that you always use a static mat and static strap whileworking on components in the interior of the system.2 Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 84.3 Remove the cooling shroud. See "Removing the Cooling Shroud" onpage 96.WARNING: The heat sink and processor are hot to the touch for some time afterthe system has been powered down. Allow the heat sink and processor to coolbefore handling them.4 Release the heat-sink release levers and lift the heat-sink blank off theFlexMem Bridge.CAUTION: The FlexMem Bridge is held in its socket under strong pressure. Beaware that the release lever can spring up suddenly if not firmly grasped.5 Position your thumb firmly over the socket-release lever and release thelever from the locked position by pushing down and pulling out fromunder the tab. Rotate the lever 90 degrees upward until the FlexMemBridge is released from the socket. See Figure 3-26.6 Close the processor shield.
