122 Jumpers and ConnectorsDisabling a Forgotten PasswordThe system's software security features include a system password and a setuppassword, which are discussed in detail in "Using the System Setup Programand Boot Manager" on page 23. The password jumper enables these passwordfeatures or disables them and clears any password(s) currently in use.CAUTION: See "Protecting Against Electrostatic Discharge" in the safetyinstructions that came with the system.1 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnectthe system from the electrical outlet.2 Open the system. See "Opening and Closing the System" on page 45.3 Remove the jumper plug from the password jumper.See Figure 6-1 to locate the password jumper (labeled "PWRD_EN") onthe system board.4 Close the system. See "Closing the System" on page 46.The existing passwords are not disabled (erased) until the system bootswith the password jumper plug removed. However, before you assign a newsystem and/or setup password, you must install the jumper plug.NOTE: If you assign a new system and/or setup password with the jumperplug still removed, the system disables the new password(s) the next time itboots.5 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnectthe system from the electrical outlet.6 Open the system.
