334 Auto Image and Configuration Updateno USB storage device is present, or no configuration or images files arepresent on the USB storage device, the switch uses the DHCP Auto Installprocess. What Is USB Auto Configuration? You can use the USB Auto Configuration feature to configure or upgrade oneor more switches that have not been previously configured, such as when youdeploy new switches. Before you deploy the switch, you perform the followingsteps:1 Create a text file that contains IP addresses (and/or MAC addresses) andfile names that are parsed and used by this feature. The MAC address usedto identify the switch is the MAC address of the out-of-band interface (see"Switch Addresses" on page 97 for further information).2 Copied the file onto a USB device.3 Insert the USB device into the front-panel USB port on the PowerConnectswitch. When the Auto Configuration process starts and a factory default or emptyconfiguration file is present on the switch, the feature automatically searchesa plugged-in USB device for information. What Files Does USB Auto Configuration Use?The USB Auto Configuration feature uses the following file types:• *.setup file for initial switch configuration• *.text file for configuration information• *.stk file for software image installationThe Auto Configuration file searches the USB device for a file with a *.setupextension. If only one .setup file is present, the switch uses the file. Whenmultiple *.setup files are present, the switch uses only thepowerconnnect.setup file. If no powerconnect.setup file is available, theswitch checks for a file with a *.text configuration file and a *.stk image file. Ifmultiple .text files exist, the switch uses the powerconnect.text file. IfNOTE: Neither USB Configuration nor Auto Install is invoked if a validconfiguration file is on the switch.Auto Install is not invoked if a validconfiguration file is on the switch.
