286 Installing System Components10 Replace the cooling shroud. See "Installing the Cooling Shroud" onpage 277.11 Close the sled. See "Installing the Front and Back Sled Covers" onpage 180 or "Installing the Sled Cover" on page 183.12 Replace the sled. See "Installing a Sled" on page 156.13 Press to enter the System Setup and check that the processorinformation matches the new system configuration.System MemoryEach system board has 16 memory module sockets for the installation ofDDR3 unbuffered ECC DIMMs (ECC UDIMMs), registered DIMMs(RDIMMs), and load reduced DIMMs (LRDIMMs) to support processor 1and processor 2. See "System Board Connectors" on page 355 for the locationof the memory modules.Memory Module Installation GuidelinesFollow these guidelines when installing memory modules on the sled systemboard.• Use only Dell approved R/LR/UDIMM DDR3 memory modules in 2 GB,4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB capacities. DIMM types (R/LR/UDIMM)cannot be mixed.• DIMM slots are numbered 1 to 8 and designated by two channels. Thenumber of channels used and the allowable configuration depend on thememory mode selected in the System Setup program.• DIMMs must be installed in each channel starting with the DIMM socketfarthest from the processor, per Table 3-1 .• Memory optimized mode is supported on the sled system board.• Memory sparing and memory mirroring are supported on the sled systemboard. Memory sparing requires that all the DIMMs are identicallypopulated in all 4 channels. One channel will be the spare and notaccessible as system memory until brought online to replace a failingchannel. For memory mirroring, two channels operate as mirrors for eachother, identical DIMMs must be installed in the same slots across bothchannels.
