Jumpers and Connectors 183Disabling a Forgotten PasswordThe system's software security features include a system password and a setuppassword, which are discussed in detail in "Using the System Setup Program."The password jumper enables these password features or disables them andclears any password(s) currently in use.CAUTION: See "Protecting Against Electrostatic Discharge" in the safetyinstructions that came with the system.1 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnectthe system from the electrical outlet.2 Open the system. See "Opening and Closing the System" on page 90.3 Remove the jumper plug from the password jumper.See Figure 6-1 to locate the password jumper (labeled "PWRD_EN") onthe system board.4 Close the system. See "Opening and Closing the System" on page 90.5 Reconnect your system and peripherals to their electrical outlets, and turnon the system.The existing passwords are not disabled (erased) until the system bootswith the password jumper plug removed. However, before you assign a newsystem and/or setup password, you must install the jumper plug.NOTE: If you assign a new system and/or setup password with the jumper plugstill removed, the system disables the new password(s) the next time it boots.6 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnectthe system from the electrical outlet.7 Open the system.
