62 Installing Enclosure ComponentsRemoving and Installing a RAID ControllerModule Backup Battery UnitEach RAID controller module has a battery unit that provides backup powerfor the data cache memory. The battery unit is mounted inside the RAIDcontroller module and connects to the controller circuit board. This sectiondescribes how to remove and replace the battery unit.CAUTION: Only trained service technicians are authorized to remove theenclosure cover and access any of the components inside the enclosure. Beforeperforming any procedure, see your Product Information Guide for completeinformation about safety precautions, working inside the enclosure and protectingagainst electrostatic discharge.NOTICE: RAID controller modules are hot-pluggable and can be removed andinstalled without shutting down the enclosure. However, removing a controllermodule on which data traffic is occurring could cause data loss and is notrecommended. Use the MD Storage Manager to take the RAID controller moduleoffline before removal.CAUTION: Always wear a wrist grounding strap when handling equipment withstatic-sensitive components. See your Product Information Guide for safetyinformation.1 Use MD Storage Manager to place the RAID controller module offline.See the MD Storage Manager documentation for more information.2 Remove the RAID controller module (see "Removing and Installing aRAID Controller Module" on page 60).3 Remove the screws holding the battery cover and remove the cover (seeFigure 3-5).
