6. If another device is installed in the CD/DVD drive bay, remove that device (see Removing a CD/DVD Drive (Desktop Computer)).7. If the CD/DVD drive bay is unpopulated and metal shields are present in your computer (see About the Metal Shields Present in Some DriveConfigurations), pull to remove the 5.25-inch metal shield.8. Remove the drive-panel insert (see Removing a Drive-Panel Insert).9. If no screws are attached to the drive, remove the shoulder screws from the inside of the drive panel and attach the screws to the new drive.10. Gently slide the drive into place until you hear a click or feel the drive securely installed.11. Attach the power and data cables to the CD/DVD drive.12. If you are installing an IDE drive, another CD/DVD drive may be attached to the same data cable by another connector. The other end of the data cableshould connect to the system board connector labeled "IDE."
