15ENGLISH• The quick system settings and factory default settings are changed at the system setting change menu.• The settings are stored in the memory until they are next changed, even when the power is turned off.(4) System setting changes[1] Setting the type of speakers• The composition of the signals output from the different channels and the frequency response are adjusted automaticallyaccording to the combination of speakers actually being used.12At the SETUP MENU, select “SYSTEM SETUP” andpress the ENTER button. At the SYSTEM SETUP MENU screen, use the andcursor buttons to select the speaker system youare using.“SPEAKER CONFIGURATION” and press the ENTERbutton.BS P E A K E R C O N F I G U R A T I O ND E L A Y T I M EC H A N N E L L E V E LDVD AUTO POWER O F F> SETUPSETUP MENUDEC I S ION : ENTER BUTTONS Y S T E M S E T U P M E N USEL ECT :ENTERRemote control unit Remote control unit3 Set whether or not speakers are connected and, if so,their size parameters.CENTER SPEAKERFRONT SPEAKERSSUB WOOFERSURROUNDSPEAKERSRemote control unit• The item to be set is displayed in yellow, and thevalues of the other items are displayed in green.BF R O N T S P . :C E N T E R S P . :LARGE SMALL NONESURROUND S P . :LARGE SMALL NONESUBWOOFER : Y E S NOSW F R E Q . : 1 2 0 H zSW MODE : L F E LFE + MAINFINISH: ENTER BUTTONS P E A K E R C O N F I G U R A T I O NSEL ECT :LARGE SMALL4 Enter the setting.• The SYSTEM SETUP MENUreappears.ENTERRemote control unitNOTE:• Select “LARGE” or “SMALL” not according to the actualsize of the speaker but according to the speaker’scapacity for playing low frequency (approximately 100 Hzand below) signals. If you do not know, try comparing thesound at both settings (setting the volume to a level lowenough so as not to damage the speakers) to determinethe proper setting.ParametersLARGE……. Select this when using speakers that can fullyreproduce low sounds of below 100 Hz.SMALL…… Select this when using speakers that do notprovide sufficient volume for playing lowfrequencies of 100 Hz and less. When thissetting is made, frequencies below thefrequency set at the subwoofer frequencysetting are assigned to the subwoofer.NONE…….. Select this when no speakers are installed.YES/NO…... Select “Yes” when a subwoofer is installed,“No” when a subwoofer is not installed. If the subwoofer has sufficient low frequency playbackcapacity, good sound can be achieved even when“Small” is set for the front, center and surroundspeakers. For the majority of speaker system configurations, usingthe SMALL setting for all five main speakers andSubwoofer On with a connected subwoofer will yield thebest results.Subwoofer frequency (SW FREQ.)• For the subwoofer frequency at the speaker settingscreen, set the bass crossover frequency for playbackfrom the subwoofer.• Select “80 Hz”, “120 Hz”, “150 Hz” or “180 Hz” (-6 dBfor each). Bass sound below these frequencies is playedfrom the subwoofer.(This is set to “120 Hz” by factory default.)Assignment of low frequencies• In the Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS, and virtualsurround modes, the low frequency signals for channelswhose speaker settings are set to “Small” are assignedto the subwoofer. The low frequencies of channels setto “Large” are played from those channels.(If set to “120 Hz”, channels set to “Small” play soundsof 120 Hz and greater, while bass frequencies of under120 Hz are played from the subwoofer.)• In surround modes other than the ones listed above, lowfrequencies below the frequency set at the subwooferfrequency setting are played from the subwooferregardless of whether the speakers are set to “Large” or“Small”.• Set the subwoofer frequency according to the lowfrequency playback abilities of your speakers andsubwoofer.Subwoofer mode (SW MODE)• The subwoofer mode setting is only valid when“LARGE” is set for the front speakers and “YES” is setfor the subwoofer in the “SPEAKER CONFIGURATION”settings.• When the “LFE+MAIN” playback mode is selected, thelow frequency signal range of channels set to “LARGE”are produced simultaneously from those channels andthe subwoofer channel. In this playback mode, the low frequency range expandmore uniformly through the room, but depending on thesize and shape of the room, interference may result in adecrease of the actual volume of the low frequencyrange.• Selection of the “LFE ” play mode will play the lowfrequency signal range of the channel selected with“LARGE” from that channel only. Therefore, the lowfrequency signal range that are played from thesubwoofer channel are only the low frequency signalrange of LFE (only during Dolby Digital or DTS signalplayback) and the channel specified as “SMALL” in thesetup menu.• Select the play mode that provides bass reproductionwith body.• When the subwoofer is set to “YES”, bass sound isoutput from the subwoofer regardless of the subwoofermode setting in surround modes other than Dolby/DTS.\
