Othermodes do not work when playing Dolby Digital signals.• DTS signals can only be played in the Auto decode(DTS), Direct or stereo modes. Other modes do notwork when playing DTS signals.• DTS signals can also be played in the “DTS” inputmode. (See page 19.) In this case, decoding andplayback are only performed when DTS signals areinput.Surround parameters (2)D.COMP. (Dynamic Range Compression):• This parameter adjusts the dynamic range of theDolby Digital sound. When listening with the volumeturned relatively low, at night for example, set this tothe “HI” side to lower the peak of the sound andamplify the quieter sounds, narrowing the dynamicrange and making the sound easier to listen to. Set to“OFF” to turn this function off.LFE (Low Frequency Effect):• Program source and adjustment range1. Dolby Digital: –10 dB to 0 dB2. DTS Surround: –10 dB to 0 dB• When Dolby Digital encoded software is played, it isrecommended that the LFE LEVEL be set to 0 dB forcorrect Dolby Digital playback.• When DTS encoded movie software is played, it isrecommended that the LFE LEVEL be set to 0 dB forcorrect DTS playback.• When DTS encoded music software is played, it isrecommended that the LFE LEVEL be set to –10 dBfor correct DTS playback.Stop operating buttons once the surround parametersettings have been completed.
