Whenfireplace is in operation, doors must be fullyopened or fully closed position only or a fire hazardmay be created (see Figure 30).A fireplace equipped with glass doors operatesmuch differently than a fireplace with an openfront. A fireplace with glass doors has a limitedamount of air for combustion.Excessive heat within the fireplace can result iftoo large a fire is built or if combustion air gate isnot completely open. The following tips shouldbe followed to assure that both the fireplace andglass door retain their beauty and function prop-erly. Both the flue damper and glass doors mustbe fully opened before starting fire. This willprovide sufficient combustion air and maintainsafe temperatures in firebox.IMPORTANT: The glass must be allowed towarm slowly and evenly. The tempered glass willwithstand a gradual temperature rise to 550° F,which is more than a normal fire will generate.Such materials as pitch/wax laden logs, very drymill end lumber and large amounts of paper orcardboard boxes can create an excessively hot fireand should not be burned in this fireplace. Alwayskeep the fire well back from the doors and neverallow flames to contact the glass.WARNING: Fireplacesequipped with glass doorsshould be operated only withdoors fully opened or doors fullyclosed. Doors, if left partly open, may draw gas and flame out ofthe fireplace opening creatingrisks of both fire and smoke.INSTALLING GLASS DOORSSpring clips have been installed but some adjust-ments may be needed. Install the doors using thefollowing steps:1. With bi-fold doors completely folded, insertbottom pivot pin into pivot hole located nearbottom corner of front face opening and swingdoor to vertical position making sure top pinsslide into door track. Door is installed whentop door pin snaps into spring clip.2. Repeat step 1 for remaining door.If you find the doors do not close properly or donot appear level or straight, proceed with sectionon door adjustment,Figure 28 - Installing Bi-Fold DoorsSpringClipInsert Pininto SpringClipPivotHoleInsertBottomPivot Pininto HoleFold Doorand SlideTop PinsInto TrackDOOR ADjUSTMENTRemove doors and slightly loosen lower pivot clipsand upper spring clips.
