Inspect these areasof heater before each use. Haveheater inspected yearly by a quali-fied service person. Heater mayneed more frequent cleaning dueto excessive lint from carpeting, pet hair, bedding material, etc.WARNING: Failure to keepthe primary air opening(s) ofthe burner(s) clean may result insooting and property damage.BURNER INjECTOR HOLDER ANDpILOT AIR INLET HOLEThe primary air inlet holes allow the properamount of air to mix with the gas. This providesa clean burning flame. Keep these holes clearof dust, dirt, lint and pet hair. Clean these air in-let holes prior to each heating season. Blockedair holes will create soot. We recommend thatyou clean the unit every three months duringoperation and have heater inspected yearly bya qualified service person. We also recommend that you keep the burnertube and pilot assembly clean and free of dustand dirt. To clean these parts we recommendusing compressed air no greater than 30 PSI.Your local computer store, hardware store orhome center may carry compressed air in acan. If using compressed air in a can, pleasefollow the directions on the can. If you don’tfollow directions on the can, you could dam-age the pilot assembly.1. Shut off unit, including pilot. Allow unit tocool for at least thirty minutes.2. Inspect burner, pilot and primary air inletholes on injector holder for dust and dirt(see Figure 47).3. Blow air through the ports/slots and holesin the burner.4. Check injector holder located at end ofburner tube again. Remove any largeparticles of dust, dirt, lint or pet hair witha soft cloth or vacuum cleaner nozzle.5. Blow air into the primary air holes on theinjector holder.6. In case any large clumps of dust have nowbeen pushed into the burner repeat steps3 and 4.Clean pilot assembly also. Additional clean-ing may be needed for proper pilot operationbased on use/lack of use. A yellow tip on thepilot flame may indicate dust and dirt in thepilot assembly. There is a small pilot air inlethole about from where the pilot flame comesout of pilot assembly (see Figure 48). Withunit off, lightly blow air through air inlet hole. You may blow through a drinking straw ifcompressed air is not available.Figure 47 - Injector Holder On OutletBurner TubeBurner TubeInjectorHolderPrimary AirInlet HolesFigure 48 - Pilot Inlet Air Hole (Your pilotmay vary from pilot shown)Pilot AirInlet HolePilot AssemblyLOGS• If you remove logs for cleaning, refer toInstalling Logs Embers and Lava Rock, page 17, to properly replace logs.• Replace log(s) if broken or chipped (dime-sized or larger).MAIN BURNERPeriodically inspect all burner flame holes withheater running. All slotted burner flame holesshould be open with flame present. All round burnerflame holes should be open with a small blue flamepresent. Some burner flame holes may becomeblocked by debris or rust, with no flame present. Ifso, turn off heater and let cool. Remove blockage, blocked burner flame holes will create soot.WARNING: The injector hold-ers (air shutters) are not adjust-able. Do not move injector holdersfrom their original positions.
