Figure 56 shows anincorrect pilot flame pattern. The incorrect pilot flame is nottouching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple tocool. When the thermocouple cools, the fireplace will shut down.Figure 55 - Correct Pilot FlamePattern (Propane/LP Remote-Ready Shown)Pilot BurnerThermocoupleFigure 56 - Incorrect Pilot FlamePattern (Propane/LP Remote-Ready Shown)Pilot BurnerThermocoupleOPERATING FIREPLACEContinuedOPERATING FIREPLACE (REMOTE-READY MODELS)GWMS2 Wall Mounted Switch (Optional)Operating BlowerINSPECTING BURNERSPilot Flame PatternBurner Flame PatternMake sure the heater switch is on AUTO. This wall switch worksjust like the conventional light switch. Flip the switch up for onand down for off.Note: Make sure that this switch is not in a position to bemistaken for a light switch. This may result in the fireplace beinginadvertently turned on without the proper precautions beingtaken. See installation instructions on page 22 of this manual.OPERATING BLOWERAUTO/OFF/ONSwitchThis blower has three settings: ON, OFF, and AUTO. In the ONposition, the blower will operate constantly. In the OFF posi-tion, the blower will not operate. In the AUTO position, theblower will start when the thermostat senses a sufficient in-crease in firebox temperature.Note: Your fireplace and thermostat blower will not turn onand off at the same time. The fireplace may run for severalminutes before the blower turns on. After the heater modulatesto the pilot position, the blower will continue to run. The blowerwill shut off after the firebox temperature decreases.Note: It is safe to operate fireplace with blower turned off. However, the blower helps distribute heated air from the fireplace.Figure 54 - AUTO/OFF/ON Blower SwitchGWMS2 WALL MOUNTEDSWITCH (OPTIONAL)Figure 57 - Correct Burner Flame PatternFigure 58 - Incorrect Burner Flame PatternBURNER FLAME PATTERNFigure 57 shows a correct burner flame pattern. Figure 58 shows anincorrect burner flame pattern. The incorrect burner flame patternshows sporadic, irregular flame tipping. The flame should not bedark or have an orange/reddish tinge.Note: When using the fireplace the first time, the flame will beorange for approximately one hour until the log cures. If burner flame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 58• turn fireplace off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appliance, page 24 for Ther-mostat-Controlled Models or page 25 for Remote-Ready Models)• see Troubleshooting, pages 29 through 31If pilot flame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 56• turn fireplace off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appliance, page 24 for Ther-mostat-Controlled Models or page 25 for Remote-Ready Models)• see Troubleshooting, pages 29 through 31Note: The pilot flame on natural gas units will have a slight curve, but flame should be blue and have no yellow or orange color.10,000 Btu/Hr Units26,000 Btu/Hr Units10,000 Btu/Hr Units26,000 Btu/Hr Units
