Combination Thermostat and over-temperature energy cut-out.2. Combination Pressure &Temperature Relief Valve.These devices must not be tamperedwith or removed.The water heater must not be operatedunless each of these devices is fittedand in working order. The element(s)cover should be removed only by anelectrician.The electrical power supply switch mustbe turned off and the fuse removed orthe circuit breaker isolated at the mainelectrical supply switchboard before thewater heater electrical cover is removed.Open the PTR Valve for approximately10 seconds by lifting the lever on thevalve to ensure water is relieved to wastethrough the relief drain pipe. Lower levergently and check that it closes correctly.The PTR Valve must not be tamperedwith or removed. The water heater mustnot be operated unless this valve isfitted and in working order.The PTR Valve should be checked foradequate performance or replaced atintervals not exceeding 5 years, or lessin areas where local regulations apply.ImportantThe PTR Valve and its drain outlet pipemust not be sealed or blocked. It isnormal for the PTR valve to leak a smallamount of water during heating cycles.DangerFailure to operate the relief valve easinglever at least once every six (6) monthsmay result in a problem with the waterheater and in some cases the tank mayexplode.
