They are available intwo frame sizes, DSL-206 and DSL-416. The primarypurpose of the current limiters is to extend the interrupt-ing rating of the DS circuit breaker up to 200,000amperes RMS symmetrical current. If the current limitersare sized per Table 5, the circuit breaker will function andinterrupt the routine fault currents. Infrequent high faultswill be cleared by the limiter. The limiters protect the cir-cuit breaker on faults above the rating of the breaker. Thelimiters will blow below the circuit breaker short-time rat-ing if the fault currents equal the system maximumcapacity. In some applications the current limiters will be sizedsmaller than necessary for protection of the DSL circuitbreaker in order to provide protection for downstreamequipment. When this is done, the current limiters willblow on fault currents which could have been satisfacto-rily interrupted by the basic circuit breaker.Type DS-3200 and DS-4000 fuse trucks provide for sepa-rate mounting of Class L current limiting fuses on drawouttrucks for use in series with DS-632 and DS-840 circuitbreakers respectively. This separate mounting is madenecessary by the size of the Class L fuses and their hightemperature characteristics.9.1 DSL CURRENT LIMITERSAvailable current limiter ratings and their recommendedapplications are listed in Table 5. Do not replace limiterswith sizes other than permitted by the table. EatonDSL current limiters have been tested and approvedby Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. for use in DSL circuitbreakers when applied according to Table 5. They are notelectrically or physically interchangeable with current lim-iting fuses of any other design. The current limiters are held in place in an extension pro-vided on the back of the circuit breaker. This extensionmakes the DSL circuit breakers eight inches deeper thanthe corresponding DS circuit breakers (see Figures 77,78, and 79). The current limiters can only be removed fromthe circuit breaker and replaced when the circuit breakeris removed from its associated compartment. For thisreason, there is no fixed mounted version of the DSL cir-cuit breakers.ø Minimum nuisance blowing of limiters* Use only when current limiting is required for downstream equipment. If longdelay pick-up is set above 100%, minimum limiter ratings should not be used.** Highest rating that will protect breaker.Fig. 77 DSL-206 Breaker Side View.9.2 BLOWN LIMITER INDICATORThe Blown Limiter Indicator provides a visual indicationon the front of DSL circuit breakers when a current limiterin any phase has interrupted a short circuit. It alsoinsures that the circuit breaker will be tripped when anycurrent limiter has blown, to prevent single phase powerbeing applied to a three-phase load (see Figure 80).This device consists of three solenoids, each connectedin parallel with one of the limiters. When a limiter isblown, the resulting voltage across the open limitercauses the associated solenoid to operate, tripping thecircuit breaker mechanically and extending an indicatorthrough the front cover of the circuit breaker (see Figure78). The indicator will remain extended and the breakerwill be held trip-free until the reset button is pushed. If thedevice is reset and the breaker reclosed on an energizedTable 5 - Sensor and Limiter RatingsBreakerTypeSensorRating ø Recommended Limiter Ratings*Minimum **MaximumDSL-206DSL-206800A600A1600A1200A1200A800A2000A2000ADSL-206 Less than600A1200A 125% or more ofsensor rating2000ADSL-416 1600A 3000A 3000A 3000ADSL-416 1200A 2500A 2000A 3000ADSL-416 Less than1200A2000A 125% or more ofsensor rating3000A
