i. A final thorough inspection should be made toensure that no tools or other objects havebeen accidentally left inside the enclosure.SECTION 4 - OPERATIONPage 54.1 MECHANICAL SAFETY INTERLOCKSWARNING!Defeating or disengaging safety interlocks on anLBS switch that is connected to a power sourcemay result in property damage, bodily injury ordeath.Do not defeat or disengage any safety interlocks unlessall power sources have been disconnected and lockedout. The LBS switch is equipped with switch interlocks anddoor interlocks as described in section 1.2.Fig. 5 Door/Switch Interlocks4.1.1 Door/Switch Mechanism InterlockThis mechanical interlock prevents inadvertent closureof the switch if the enclosure door is open. When thedoor is closed, a bracket fastened to the inside of theenclosure door causes the interlock latch to move out ofthe blocking position (see Fig. 5).4.1.2 Door/Switch Shaft InterlockThis interlock prevents the door of the enclosure frombeing opened when the switch is closed. If the switch isclosed, a hook welded to the operating shaft engages abracket fastened to the inside of the switch enclosuredoor, thus preventing the door from being opened. (SeeFig. 5.)4.1.3 Key Interlocking, LBS SwitchKey interlocks for one or two key, Kirk brand type “F”locks (or other manufacturers’ equal) with one-inch boltprojection are optionally available on the LBS switch.Refer to the specific order drawings for a description ofoperation for these interlock schemes, when provided.4.2. Switch OperationCAUTION!Attempting to operate an LBS Switch with a keyinterlock bolt extended will result in equipmentdamage and may also expose a person to bodilyinjury or death. The key must be inserted into the interlock and rotatedto retract the locking bolt before operating an LBSswitch. To close or open an LBS switch, the operating handle isinserted into the handle casting and rotated up or downas appropriate. This charges the compression spring, and as the spring lever goes over-toggle, the storedenergy of the spring is transferred to the shaft whichsnaps the switch open or closed. The blades thusmove at a predetermined speed that is independent ofthe operator. When the LBS in mounted in the bottom compartmentof an Ampgard structure, care should be taken to insurethat the operator’s hand is not located between thehandle end and the floor. Grasp the operating handle asshown in Figure 6 to insure safe, reliable operation ofthe switch. The operator should stand clear of thehandle while opening or closing the switch. Careshould be exercised to avoid dropping the handle.Store the handle in the clips provided on the handlecoverplate (see Fig 6).MechanismIntlkCAUTION!Make certain that the switch door is fullyclosed and the ¼-turn latches fully engagedbefore operating the switch.Operating the switch without the main door and ¼-turn latches fully closed could result in damage tothe door or door interlock.ShaftIntlk
