Menvier300Page 32. Before You BeginPreparationBefore installation you should carry out a surveyof the site. You need to know how many and whatkind of detectors will be monitored by the controlunit. You also need to assess where any radioexpanders must be placed in order to receiveradio signals from their detectors successfully.Radio Site SurveyIf you intend to fit radio expanders you shouldconduct signal strength tests. Eaton’s SecurityBusiness produces the Scantronic 790r hand heldsignal strength meter and 734r-01 test transmitterfor this purpose. Please read the 790r manual fordetails.Please be aware of the following: The 790r signal strength meter readingsshould be used only as an guide when initiallychecking the site. A reading of four green LEDs or higherindicates an acceptable signal strength. Once you have installed the alarm system youshould put the control unit in the Installer testmenu and test the received signal strengthfrom each radio transmitter. A signal strength reading of two or more unitsby the control unit from each transmittershould provide reliable operation in theinstalled system. (Note: if you take the signalstrength using Eaton’s Security BusinessDownloader or the web browser interfacewhile the panel is in user mode then theminimum acceptable signal strength is fourunits. Ensure that the control unit is in Installermode when reading signal strengthsremotely.) When you record the signal strength readingsfor later inspection, you should record thereadings taken from the control unit of theinstalled system while it is in the InstallerMenu.Please be aware that the signal strength receivedfrom a transmitter can change after installationbecause of local environmental changes. Forexample, users switching on laptops nearby, ormoving metal cabinets from their original positioncan all affect the signal from a transmitter. The totalweight of the control unit plus batteries can be upto 18kg.Do site the unit:Upright, batteries at the bottom. (This doesnot apply to the wired zone expander.)Within a protected area.Do NOT site the unit:In the entry or exit zones, or outside the areacovered by the alarm system.Next to electronic equipment, particularlycomputers, photocopiers or other radioequipment, CAT 5 data lines or industrialmains equipment.Siting KeypadsDo site the keypad:Within the area protected by the alarmsystem.At a convenient height and location for theuser.Out of sight of potential intruders.Do NOT site the keypad:Next to electronic equipment, particularlycomputers, photocopiers or other radioequipment, CAT 5 data lines or industrialmains equipment.Where the cable run will exceed the capacityof the bus, see page 11.If fitting two or more keypads make sure that youplace the keypads more than one metre apartfrom each other or from any other type of proxreader. (At less than one meter separation theproximity tag readers will interfere with eachother.) Remember not to place keypads orexternal prox readers on opposite sides of thesame wall.If you intend to fit external prox reader KEY-EP toa KEY-KPZ01/KP01, then do not site the externalprox reader itself closer than one meter to anyother keypad or other type of prox reader.Siting Wireless Zone ExpandersDo site the unit:Upright.Within a protected area.As high as possible.
