20INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTSIMPORTANT…Please Read CarefullyHow to Connect ElectricityFor personalsafety, thisappliance must beproperly grounded. The power cord ofthis appliance isequipped with a 3-prong (grounding)plug which mateswith a standard 3-prong (grounding)wall outlet to minimize the possibility of electricshock hazard from this appliance.Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by aqualified electrician to make sure the outlet isproperly grounded.Where a standard 2-prong wall outlet is encountered,it is your personal responsibility and obligation tohave it replaced with a properly grounded 3-prongwall outlet.DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES,CUT OR REMOVE THE THIRD (GROUND)PRONG FROM THE POWER CORD.Use of Adapter PlugBecause ofpotential safetyhazards undercertain conditions,we stronglyrecommendagainst use of anadapter plug. However, if youstill elect to usean adapter, wherelocal codespermit, aTEMPORARY CONNECTION may be made to aproperly grounded 2-prong wall outlet by use of a ULlisted adapter available at most local hardware stores. The larger slot in the adapter must be aligned with thelarger slot in the wall outlet to provide proper polarityin the connection of the power cord.Use of an adapter plug will increase the clearanceneeded for the back of the refrigerator.CAUTION: Attaching the adapter ground terminalto a wall outlet cover screw does not ground theappliance unless the cover screw is metal, and notinsulated, and the wall outlet is grounded through thehouse wiring. You should have the circuit checked bya qualified electrician to make sure the outlet isproperly grounded. When disconnecting the power cord from theadapter, always hold the adapter in place with onehand while pulling the power cord plug with the otherhand. If this is not done, the adapter ground terminalis very likely to break with repeated use.Should the adapter ground terminal break, DONOT USE the appliance until a proper ground hasagain been established.Electrical Requirements Use of Extension CordsThe refrigerator should always be plugged into itsown individual electrical outlet which has a voltagerating that matches the rating plate. This provides the best performance and also preventsoverloading house wiring circuits which could cause afire hazard from overheated wires.Because of potential safety hazards under certainconditions, we strongly recommend against the use ofan extension cord. However, if you still elect to use anextension cord, it is absolutely necessary that it be aUL-listed 3-wire grounding type appliance extensioncord having a grounding type plug and outlet and thatthe electrical rating of the cord be 15 amperes(minimum) and 120 volts.Preferred methodInsure propergrounding existsbefore using.Temporary Method(Adapter plugs notpermitted in Canada.)Align large prongs/slots.Insure proper grounding and firmconnection exists before use.
