Putflatware in the removable basket with forkand knife handles up to protect your hands.Place spoons in the basket with handlesdown. Mix knives, forks and spoons so theydon’t nest together. Distribute evenly. Smallplastic items, such as measuring spoons andlids from small containers should go in thebottom of the silverware basket with thesilverware on top.The one-piece silverware basket (on somemodels) can be placed in the front, right sideor back of the lower rack.A variety of options is available regardingthe three-piece silverware basket (on somemodels) in your dishwasher. The completebasket is designed to fit on the right side ofthe lower rack. Additionally, each end ofthe basket is removable to add loadingflexibility to accommodate flatware andlower rack capacity needs.The lids of both end and middle baskets (onsome models) can be closed to contain smallitems. Long items can be placed on the utilityshelf in the upper rack. Load flatware throughthe slots in the silverware basket covers.Lower RackThe lower rack is best used for plates, saucersand cookware. Large items such as broilerpans and baking racks should go along theleft-hand side. Load platters, pots and bowlsalong the sides, in corners or in the back. Thesoiled side of items should face the center ofthe rack. If necessary, oversized glasses andmugs can be placed in the lower rack tomaximize loading flexibility.Also, be careful not to let a portion of an itemsuch as a pot or dish handle extend throughthe bottom rack. This could block the washarm and cause poor washing results.Fold-down tines (on some models) provideflexibility for extra-large and hard-to-fit items.The tines may be left in the up position orfolded down to customize the lower rack. Donot load large bowls or pots facedown in thefront left-hand corner. Items loaded in thismanner could prevent proper operation ofthe manual detergent cup.
