– 19 –Position the door at a 30- to 45-degree angle. Fillthe reservoir with a liquid automatic dishwasherdetergent until the detergent reaches the threadsof the reservoir access. The dispenser tank holdsapproximately 45 ounces of liquid dishwasherdetergent (about 1 to 2 months' supply).Place the cap on the reservoir access threads, pushdown, and then turn clockwise until the cap is tight. To remove the detergent reservoir:Note: Removing the reservoir access collar causesstructural damage to the collar. It must be replacedwith a new part (Part # WD35X10059).Remove the outer door panel. (See Outer DoorPanel.) Insert a small, flat blade screwdriver into theslot in the side of the retaining collar and push thescrewdriver handle counterclockwise while turningthe reservoir access collar counterclockwise aquarter turn. Remove the retaining collar. Unplug thetube from the reservoir outlet and disconnect thesensor from the control module.Detergent Level SensorThe SmartDispense detergent level sensor consistsof a single-level detection continuity sensor andincludes the following components:• A grommet seal• A LOW DETERGENT LED indicator light• A wire harnessWhen the detergent in the reservoir drops belowthe continuity sensor, a signal is sent to the controlboard, and the LOW DETERGENT LED indicator lightis turned on. The light indicates 3 to 7 wash cyclesare left before the detergent reservoir is completelyempty.Note: The LOW DETERGENT LED may look like itis illuminated when in fact it is not. An illuminatedindicator shines bright red.Note: If the SmartDispense system is not beingused, the LOW DETERGENT light can be turned off(or on) by pressing the ADDED HEAT button 5 timeswithin 3 seconds. There are 3 audible beeps whenthe light goes off.The sensor is similar to the type used in severalautomotive applications, such as the windshieldwiper fluid reservoir.LOW DETERGENTSmartDispenseS ENSINGWASHINGD RYINGS ANITIZEDC LEANLight willturn onwhen timeto refillThe control takes a reading of the detergent level atpower-up (when power is restored from an outage)and each time the door is closed and latched. The control outputs a pulsing 5-VDC analog signalto the sensor and monitors the return voltage.Changes in the quantity of detergent in the tankchange the amount of current drawn by the sensor.Note: The dispenser tank comes as an assembly. It includes the sensor with wire harness, gasket, and retaining collar. The complete assembly partnumber is WD35X10058.(Continued next page)
