The use of undersized cookware will expose a portion of the surface unit to directcontact and may result in ignition of clothing. Proper relationship of cookware to surface unit willalso improve efficiency.n Never leave the surface units unattended athigh heat settings. Boilovers cause smokingand greasy spillovers that may catch on fire.n Only certain types of glass, glass ⁄ceramic,earthenware or other glazed containers aresuitable for cooktop service; others maybreak because of the sudden change intemperature.n To minimize the possibility of burns,ignition of flammable materials andspillage, the handle of a container shouldbe turned toward the center of the rangewithout extending over nearby surface units.n Always turn the surface units off beforeremoving cookware.n When preparing flaming foods under thehood, turn the fan on.n Use care when touching the cooktop. Theglass surface of the cooktop will retain heatafter the controls have been turned off.n Keep an eye on foods being fried at high ormedium high heat settings.n Foods for frying should be as dry aspossible. Frost on frozen foods or moistureon fresh foods can cause hot fat to bubbleup and over the sides of the pan.n Use little fat for effective shallow or deepfat frying. Filling the pan too full of fat cancause spillovers when food is added.n If a combination of oils or fats will be usedin frying, stir together before heating, or asfats melt slowly.n Always heat fat slowly, and watch as it heats.n Use a deep fat thermometer wheneverpossible to prevent overheating fat beyondthe smoking point.n Avoid scratching the glass cooktop. Thecooktop can be scratched with items suchas sharp instruments; rings or otherjewelry, and rivets on clothing.n Do not operate the radiant surface units ifthe glass is broken. Spillovers or cleaningsolution may penetrate a broken cooktopand create a risk of electrical shock.Contact a qualified technician immediatelyshould your glass cooktop become broken.n Never use the glass cooktop surface as acutting board.n Do not place or store items that can melt orcatch fire on the glass cooktop, even whenit is not being used.n Be careful when placing spoons or otherstirring utensils on glass cooktop surfacewhen it is in use. They may become hot andcould cause burns.n Clean the cooktop with caution. If a wetsponge or cloth is used to wipe spills on ahot surface unit, be careful to avoid steamburns. Some cleaners can produce noxiousfumes if applied to a hot surface.NOTE: We recommend that you avoidwiping any surface unit areas until theyhave cooled and the indicator light hasgone off. Sugar spills are the exception tothis. Please see theCleaning the glasscooktop section.n When the cooktop is cool, use only therecommended cleaning cream to cleanthe cooktop.n To avoid possible damage to the cookingsurface, do not apply cleaning cream tothe glass surface when it is hot.n After cleaning, use a dry cloth or papertowel to remove all cleaning cream residue.n Read and follow all instructions andwarnings on the cleaning cream labels.SURFACE UNITS5
