47Installation InstructionsELECTRICAL CONNECTIONSElectrical Requirements120-volt, 60 Hertz, properly grounded dedicated circuitprotected by a 15-amp or 20-amp circuit breaker ortime-delay fuse.Extension Cord CautionsBecause of potential safety hazards associatedwith certain conditions, we strongly recommend againstthe use of an extension cord. However, if you still elect touse an extension cord, it is absolutely necessary that itbe a UL-listed, 3-wire grounding-type appliance extensioncord and that the current carrying rating of the cord inamperes be equivalent to, or greater than, the circuitrating.GroundingIMPORTANT—(Please read carefully)FOR PERSONAL SAFETY, THIS APPLIANCE MUST BEPROPERLY GROUNDED.The power cord of this appliance is equipped witha 3-prong (grounding) plug which mates with a standard3-prong grounding wall receptacle to minimizethe possibility of electric shock hazard fromthis appliance. The customer should have the wall receptacle andcircuit checked by a qualified electrician to make surethe receptacle is properly grounded.Where a standard 2-prong wall receptacle isencountered, it is the personal responsibility andobligation of the customer to have it replaced witha properly grounded 3-prong wall receptacle.DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES,CUT OR REMOVE THE THIRD (GROUND) PRONG FROMTHE POWER CORD.A word about GFCIs – GFCIs are not required orrecommended for gas range receptacles.Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) aredevices that sense leakage of current in a circuit andautomatically switch off power when a threshold leakagelevel is detected. These devices must be manually resetby the consumer. The National Electrical Code requiresthe use of GFCIs in kitchen receptacles installed to servecountertop surfaces. Performance of the range will notbe affected if operated on a GFCI-protected circuit butoccasional nuisance tripping of the GFCI breaker ispossible.Preferred MethodEnsure proper groundexists before useELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS (CONT.)3A. Usage Situations Where Appliance Power Cord WillBe Disconnected Infrequently. An adapter may be used only on a 15-amp circuit.Do not use an adapter on a 20-amp circuit. Wherelocal codes permit, a TEMPORARY CONNECTIONmay be made to a properly grounded 2-prong wallreceptacle by the use of a UL-listed adapter, availableat most hardware stores. The larger slot in the adaptermust be aligned with the larger slot in the wall receptacleto provide proper polarity in theconnection of the power cord. When disconnecting the power cord from the adapter, always hold the adapter with one hand. If this is not done, the adapter ground terminal is very likely to break withrepeated use. Should this happen, DO NOT USE theappliance until a proper ground has again beenestablished.Temporary MethodEnsure proper groundand firm connectionbefore use(Adapter plugs not permitted in Canada)Align large prongs/slots3CAUTION: Attaching the adapter groundterminal to the wall receptacle cover screw does notground the appliance unless the cover screw is metal, and not insulated, and the wall receptacle is groundedthrough the house wiring. The customer should havethe circuit checked by a qualified electrician to makesure the receptacle is properly grounded.
