Porcelain Enamel Cooktop (on some models)The porcelain enamel finish is sturdybut breakable if misused. This finish isacid-resistant. However, any acidic foodsspilled (such as fruit juices, tomato orvinegar) should not be permitted toremain on the finish.If acids spill on the cooktop while it is hot, use adry paper towel or cloth to wipe it up right away.When the surface has cooled, wash with soapand water. Rinse well.For other spills such as fat spatterings,wash with soap and water or cleansingpowders after the surface has cooled.Rinse well. Polish with a dry cloth.Care and cleaning of the cooktop.Burner GratesPorcelain enamel burner grates shouldbe washed regularly and, of course, afterspillovers.Wash them in hot, soapy water and rinsewith clean water. You may also use abrasivecleaners and scrub pads to clean burnergrates. Dry the grates with a cloth—don’tput them back on the cooktop wet.To get rid of burned-on food, place thegrates in a covered container or plasticbag. Add 1/4 cup ammonia and let themsoak several hours or overnight. Wash,rinse well, and dry.To prevent rusting, apply a light coating ofcooking oil to the grates.Although they’re durable, the grates willgradually lose their shine, regardless ofthe best care you can give them. This isdue to their continual exposure to hightemperatures.Do not operate a burner for an extendedperiod of time without cookware on thegrate. The finish on the grate may chipwithout cookware to absorb the heat.Stainless Steel Surfaces (on some models)Do not use a steel-wool pad; it willscratch the surface.To clean the stainless steel surface,use warm sudsy water, a stainless steelcleaner such as Kleen King®, or anall-purpose liquid or spray cleaner.Always scrub in the direction of thegrain. Rinse thoroughly with a spongeor cloth and clean water. Dry witha soft, clean cloth.After cleaning, use a stainless steelpolish, such as Stainless Steel Magic ®,Revere Copper and Stainless SteelCleaner® or Wenol All PurposeMetal Polish ®.
