31Installation InstructionsCONNECTING THE REFRIGERATORTO THE HOUSE WATER LINE(icemaker and dispenser models)A cold water supply is required for automaticicemaker and dispenser operation. If thereis not a cold water supply, you will need toprovide one. See Installing the Water Linesection.NOTES:• Before making the connection tothe refrigerator, be sure the refrigeratorpower cord is not plugged into the walloutlet.• If your refrigerator does not have a waterfilter, we recommend installing one if yourwater supply has sand or particles that couldclog the screen of the refrigerator’s watervalve. Install it in the water line near therefrigerator. If using GE SmartConnect™Refrigerator Tubing Kit, you will need anadditional tube (WX08X10002) to connectthe filter. Do not cut plastic tube to installfilter.If you are using copper tubing, place acompression nut and ferrule (sleeve) ontothe end of the tubing coming from the housecold water supply.If you are using the GE SmartConnect™tubing, the nuts are already assembledto the tubing.If you are using copper tubing, insertthe end of the tubing into the refrigeratorconnection, at the back of the refrigerator,as far as possible. While holding the tubing,tighten the fitting.If you are using GE SmartConnect™ tubing,insert the molded end of the tubing intothe refrigerator connection, at the back ofthe refrigerator, and tighten the compressionnut until it is hand tight. Then tighten oneadditional turn with a wrench. Overtighteningmay cause leaks.1ABFasten the tubing into the clamp provided tohold it in position.
