The power levels on your microwave ovencan be compared to the surface units on a range. High(Power Level 10) or full power is the fastest way tocook and gives you 100%J power. Each power levelgives you microwave energy a certain percent of thetime. Power Level 7 is microwave energy 7090 of thetime. Power Level 3 is energy 3090 of the time.A high setting (10) will cook faster but may needadditional attention such as frequent stirring, rotatingor turning over. Most of your cooking will be doneon High (Power Level 10). A lower setting will cookmore evenly and with less attention given to stirringor rotating the food. Some foods may have betterflavor, texture or appearance if one of the lowersettings is used. You may wish to use a lower powerlevel when cooking foods that have a tendency toboil over, such as scalloped potatoes.Rest periods (when the microwave energy cycles off)give time for the food to “equalize” or transfer heatto the inside of the food. An example of this is shownwith Power Level 3—the defrost cycle. If microwaveenergy did not cycle off, the outside of the food wouldcook before the inside was defrosted. Here are some examples of uses for various powerlevels:POWER LEVELHigh 10Med-High 7Medium 5Low 3Warm 1BEST USESFish, bacon, vegetables, boiling liquids.Gentle cooking of meat andpoultry; baking casserolesand reheating.Slow cooking and tenderizingsuch as stews and less tendercuts of meat.Defrosting without cooking;simmering; delicate sauces.Keeping food warm withoutovercooking; softening butter.AUTOMATIC FAN FEATUREThis microwave oven has an automatic fan feature toprotect it from too much heat rising from the cooktopor range beneath it. It automatically turns on at a lowspeed if it senses too much heat.If you have turned the fan on you may find that youcannot turn it off. This is because the automatic fanhas come onto protect the internal parts of themicrowave. The fan will automatically turn off when the internalparts are cool. It may stay on for 30 minutes or moreafter the range and microwave controls have beenturned off.7
