23Installation InstructionsCONNECTING THE REFRIGERATORTO THE HOUSE WATER LINE(icemaker and dispenser models)A cold water supply is required forautomatic icemaker and dispenseroperation. If there is not a cold watersupply, you will need to provide one.See “Installing the Water Line” section.NOTES:• Before making the connection to therefrigerator, be sure the refrigeratorpower cord is not plugged into the walloutlet.• If your refrigerator does not have awater filter, we recommend installingone if your water supply has sand orparticles that could clog the screen ofthe refrigerator’s water valve. Install itin the water line near the refrigerator.If using GE SmartConnect ™ RefrigeratorTubing Kit, you will need an additionaltube (WX08X10002) to connect the filter.Do not cut plastic tube to install filter.If you are using copper tubing, place acompression nut and ferrule (sleeve) ontothe end of the tubing coming from thehouse cold water supply.If you are using the GE SmartConnect™tubing, the nuts are already assembled tothe tubing.If you are using copper tubing, insertthe end of the tubing into the refrigeratorconnection, at the back of the refrigerator,as far as possible. While holding thetubing, tighten the fitting.If you are using GE SmartConnect ™tubing, insert the molded end of thetubing into the refrigerator connection,at the back of the refrigerator, and tightenthe compression nut until it is hand tight.Then tighten one additional turn with awrench. Overtightening may cause leaks.1ABFasten the tubing into the clamp providedto hold it in position.
