• 25 •English6 TIPS FOR CHOOSING COFFEEAs a general rule, any type of coffee available on the marketcan be used.However, coffee is a natural product and its fl avour changesaccording to its origin and blend; it is therefore a good idea totry different types of coffee in order to fi nd the most suited toyour personal taste.For optimal results, we recommend using espresso machineblends. As a rule, coffee should always come out of the pres-surized fi lter holder, without dripping.The coffee brewing speed can be modified by slightly chang-ing the amount of coffee in the fi lter and/or using a differentcoffee grind.GAGGIA recommends using ESE single-dose coffee pods for atasty coffee and easier cleaning and preparing.Note: The ESE Pod Kit is only available in theStyle, Deluxe and Prestige models.BEFORE PERFORMING ANY OPERATIONS RELATEDTO HOT WATER/STEAM DISPENSING, MAKE SURETHAT THE STEAM WAND IS DIRECTED OVER THE WATERRECOVERY TRAY.7 HOT WATERDanger of scalding! Dispensing may be preced-ed by small jets of hot water. The steam wandmay reach high temperatures: never touch it with barehands.• Before using the machine, make sure that the hot water/steam knob (3) is closed and that there is enough water inthe machine tank.• (Fig.5) - Press the ON/OFF button (16); the indicator light(17) will turn on to indicate that the machine is on.• Wait until the "machine ready" indicator light (19) turnson. The machine is now ready.• During this operation the "machine ready" indicator light(19) may fl ash. This should be considered a standard op-eration, not a fault.• (Fig.22) - Place a container under the steam wand. Openthe "hot water/steam" knob (3) by turning it counter-clockwise.• (Fig.23) - Press the brew button (18).• (Fig.23) - When the required amount of hot water hasbeen dispensed, press the brew button (18) again.• (Fig.24) - Close the "hot water/steam" knob (3) by turningit clockwise. The machine isnow ready for steam dispensing.• During this operation, the indicator lights (19) and (21)may flash on and off ; this is to be considered as standardoperation and not a fault.• (Fig.26) - Insert a container under the steam wand andopen the knob (3) for a few seconds, so that remaining wa-ter can fl ow out of the steam wand. In a short delay onlysteam will come out.
