Rechargeable alkaline, NiMH, NiCad, or lithium batteries maybe used. See page 30 for instructions on selecting battery type.Stored data will not be lost while batteries are being changed. However, if batteries arecompletely discharged and are not changed within a couple of days, it may take longer for theunit to get a GPS signal fix.To install the batteries:1. Remove the battery cover by inserting a coin in the bottom slot. Twist the coin to lift thecover up and pull away.2. Compare the battery polarity with the diagram in the battery compartment and install thebatteries accordingly.3. To re-install the battery cover, slide the top portion into the appropriate slot, then snap thebottom section securely to the base of the unit.Important NoteWhen replacing batteries, use only new or fully charged bat-teries. Do not mix Alkaline and NiMH batteries. Rechargeablebatteries may typically display less capacity than disposablebatteries.Remove the batteries from the unit if you don’t plan to use itfor several months. Storing batteries in the unit for prolongedperiods may result in leakage and damage to the batterycompartment.Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper care anddisposal of used batteries. Do not incinerate used batteries, asinternal materials may ignite with explosive violence.Extensive use of backlighting and key beep tones will signifi-cantly reduce battery life.+ -+-
