If the cable is not long enough, it can be extended by splicinga larger wire (page 14).Observe the cautions at the beginning of this section aboutextending the power cable.3 Connect the black wire (-) to the negative (-) terminal of thebattery.4 Connect the red wire (+) to the positive (+) terminal of thebattery.5 Leave the power cable disconnected from the pump at thistime. You should connect the power cable to the pump only afteryou install all of the other autopilot components to avoidunwanted activity from the pump.Power Cable ExtensionsIf necessary, the power cable can be extended using theappropriate wire gauge for the length of the extension.Item DescriptionÀ FuseÁ Battery 9 ft. Refer to the instructions provided by themanufacturer of the steering system for more-specificinformation about bleeding the system. Before you bleed the hydraulic system, ensure that all hoseconnections are complete and fully tightened.1 Select an option:• If the helm reservoir contains insufficient fluid, fill it withthe appropriate amount of hydraulic fluid.• If the helm reservoir contains excess fluid, remove theexcess to avoid fluid overflow during the bleedingprocess.2 Manually steer the helm to both cylinder stops.3 Manually steer the helm fully to port.4 Open a bypass valve at the cylinder fitting.5 Turn the helm slowly to port over three minutes.6 Close the cylinder bypass valve.7 If necessary, add fluid to the helm reservoir.8 Repeat steps 2 through 7 until the helm reservoir remainsfull.9 Open the bypass valve on the pump manifold.10Turn on the autopilot system and disable the Shadow Drive.Refer to the owner's manual provided with the autopilotsystem for more information on disabling the Shadow Drive.11Hold on the helm control for 10 seconds and watch forsteering movement.12Select an option:• If there is steering movement, proceed to step 13.• If there is no movement, hold until steering movementoccurs.13Hold the soft key that produces steering movement, andsteer fully to the stop.14Steer the helm to the opposite stop using the helm control.15Close the bypass valve on the pump manifold. The hydraulic bleeding is now complete. After hydraulic bleeding is complete, re-enable the ShadowDrive.Corrosion BlockerNOTICETo ensure long life of all parts, apply corrosion blocker to thepump at least twice yearly.A marine-rated corrosion blocker should be applied to the pumpafter all hydraulic and electrical connections are made and thehydraulic system has been bled.Configuring the AutopilotThe autopilot must be configured and tuned to your boatdynamics. The Dockside Wizard and the Sea Trial Wizard onthe helm control are used to configure the autopilot. Thesewizards walk you through the necessary configuration steps.14
