1When replacing batteries, use only new orfully charged batteries. Do not mix Alkalineand NiMH batteries. Rechargeable batteriesmay typically display lower capacity thandisposable batteries.Remove the batteries from the unit if youdon’t plan to use it for several months.Storing batteries in the unit for prolongedperiods may result in leaking and damageto the battery compartment. Follow themanufacturer’s instructions for proper careand disposal of used batteries. Do not incin-erate used batteries, as internal materialsmay ignite with explosive violence.Extensive use of backlighting, WAAS, orkey beep tones can significantly reducebattery life. For more information on savingbattery life, see p. 39.Installing the BatteriesThe GPS operates on two “AA” batteries (not included). Alkaline orNiMH batteries may be used (see p. 40 to set the battery type). Stored datawill not be lost when batteries are removed.To install batteries:1. Remove the battery cover bylifting up on the D-ring, turningit 1/4 turn counterclockwise, andthen pulling the cover away.2. Insert the batteries, observingthe proper polarity. A polaritydiagram can be found moldedinside the battery compartment.3.
